EVERY WISE WOMAN BUILDETH HER HOUSE….. Proverbs 14:2a

Flossie Herndon Dixon McMillan, the youngest of three children was born December 10, 1919 to Henry and Midissa Sneed Herndon in Cuney, Texas. She was reared by her grandfather, Kinsey Sneed.

A brother and sister Allison Herndon and Linda Herndon preceded her in death.

Flossie attended Cuney Public Schools and graduated from Fredrick Douglas High School in Jacksonville, Texas.  She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Texas College and her Master’s in Education from Prairie View A & M University.

Flossie worked in the first United States Post Office of Cuney, Texas. She was very proud of her small town heritage in which she wrote and published a book about the history of her hometown. She continued to support the growth of Cuney being instrumental in the planning and development of a community center.  She taught adult education,  veterans and was also a teacher in McKinney ISD and later retired from the Dallas Independent School District after 21 years of service.

Flossie married Lee Dixon and to this union had Marsha Yvonne and Lee Michael who preceded her in death.

After moving to Dallas, Texas in 1957, she united with North Park CME Church where she served in many capacities including the first Director of the Board of Christian Education, the usher board, President of the Stewardess Board No. 1, President of the Missionary Society and member of the choir. She wrote the history of the North Park CME Church during the 100 year celebration of the church.

One of Flossie’s special attributes was a concern for senior citizens, along with being a lover of animals, especially cats! She was always willing to open her home to help someone in need and help them along the way. Flossie was a great solider in the army of the Lord, a wonderful, kind and sweet spirit that will be forever missed.

Flossie leaves to cherish her memories two granddaughters, Desiree Dixon Terrell and Denise Dixon, one great grandson Shawn Baxter, two great granddaughters Laila and Malivah Robinson, one brother Wayman Nelson, two nieces Patricia Herndon Lacy and Nedra Ballard, Goddaughter Christi Pierce, and her special caregiver that she recognized like her daughter, Leenette Pierce,  along with other friends and love ones.
