Obituary of Deacon Jim H Lockett

Please share a memory of Deacon Jim to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jim Henry Lockett was born March 4, 1937, to Henry and Fannie Mae Sigler Lockett.

He was educated in public schools in San Augustin, Texas.

He married Ruthie Boyd, and to this union, three children were born: Jacqueline, Geraldine, and Sharrion. Ruthie preceded him in death.

He later married Estella Mae Williams Crittendon, and together they were blessed to have a blended family of eight children. The family grew together and loved one another as family.

Jim was a pioneer at INCA, Trucking Industries, Inc., where he excelled as an over-the-road driver. He enjoyed the geography of the country, and he took pride in sharing specific geographical knowledge with others.

Jim served the community as an active and faithful member of the Balch Springs Citizens on Patrol Unit. He also served as a school crossing guard for the Mesquite Independent School District.

Jim accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Greater St. James Baptist Church.

He later joined Temple Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon, by the late Rev. E.L. Burrell. He served as a steadfast deacon, often serving as assistant to the pastor. He also served as the Superintendent of Sunday School, and in various other capacities when and where his service was needed.

In 2021, Jim joined the New Light Church, Mesquite, where he served faithfully until his death.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughters Jacqueline and Sharrion, and his sisters, Dora Chambers and Imer Jean Selman.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Estella, whom he lovingly called “Darlin”; sons, Norris and Jerrol Crittendon; daughters, Velma Hills (Larry); Deborah Woods, (Harold)Geraldine Vanessa; Marian Rabb, (Shaun), and also his daughter Mary.

He will also be missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
